OUR APPROACH

The Center for Autism is a nonprofit mental health clinic with a unique philosophy and approach to autism treatment. Each individual with autism is different, and as such we serve each person and their family differently.

We use a comprehensive assessment to guide treatment/services, which is the basis for building and implementing each client’s individualized treatment plan. The goal of treatment is to alleviate the client’s core deficits of autism, which are impairments in communication and social interaction, restrictive/repetitive play and other related underlying issues. Through treatment, we teach clients how to communicate and build relationships with significant individuals in their life, and learn the skills they need to help succeed beyond their time in our programs.

The Center looks beyond the walls of its programs to consider the “whole community” of the client. The client’s family is viewed as a full partner in the therapeutic process. We provide them with the treatment, support, education and resources that are needed to appropriately advocate for the individual with autism. The Center also coordinates and exchanges information with agencies that are significantly involved in a clients’ clinical, educational or occupational program. Upon discharge from our services, we offer information, support and resources that are needed to successfully transition the client and family to the next step.
